{Furniture Makeover} Vintage Striped Sideboard

I hope you had a wonderful weekend……mine was quite eventful after I ended up in the emergency room.

It seems it is not the best idea to chop the corner of your finger off while cooking dinner! I told you all I was a klutz….my finger is living proof of this. I really should not be allowed to handle sharp objects, or power tools or be allowed to walk in a straight line without proper cushioning in the event of a fall. But after some super glue and a tetanus shot I am recovering now….but it gives me a good excuse to get out of doing the dishes this week so I call that a win!

Enough personal sharing……let’s get onto why we are all really here!

This furniture makeover is a bit of fun….when I initially made over this sideboard it was for me! This was originally destined for the spot where the Architects Cabinet is now in my office. But as I have mentioned before I am a fickle thing and I change my mind a lot, but I think you all would agree that this one was worth giving up for the Architects Cabinet!

The funny thing I discovered about this sideboard is that someone at some point had shortened its legs, which I find incredibly upsetting. I love turned legs on furniture and I think this one would have had some beautiful legs at one point, now instead they were short and stumpy! Once I got over my grief I decided to create a unique and funky piece for my office. I started with painting the outside in MMSMP in Artissimo with vertical stripes on the door. I stripped, stained and varnished the top with Feast Watson in Black Japan and Satin Varnish, along with the little wood detail between the drawers. I then painted the inside with MMSMP in Apron Strings, I love having that pop of colour on the inside. The final touch was adding these cute wooden multi-coloured striped knobs, I liked these as they mirrored the stripes on the door and just hinted at the fun colour inside.

The before photo was taken after my hubby had done some sanding and the top was stripped…..but you get the idea…..

This was such a fun makeover, the new owner loves how unique this sideboard is and plans for it to be a statement piece in her home. I love that it went home with someone who appreciated it for what it was….something a little different! I actually wondered if anyone would actually buy this one…..I wasn’t sure anyone would have the same taste as me so I was overjoyed to find a like-minded soul.

Hope you have a great week and I will see you soon!
