{Our Home} My Office/Studio Mood Board

I am not an interior designer by any means…..but I love interior design….I love flicking through glossy magazines to peek inside other peoples homes, I love watching design shows like The Block and Fixer Upper (Joanna is my design guru) as they give me ideas for what I can do in my home, I am obsessed with Pinterest and Bloggers who make their home their own without a design degree all while doing it with such flair. So this leads me to my office/studio……my design shame (tell me you have a room like this too!)…..a sad place that all things go to die….a space that is neither glamorous or functional! At the moment my office is the smallest room in our home (I am totally not ungrateful to have a room, I know a lot of people who don’t even have that!) but we have plans to move me to bigger space. Currently I do a lot of my stuff on the dining room table and I make a whole lot of mess doing that and sometimes I have to leave things set up for a couple of days. So it is not practical and I am tired of living in a pit! So I have the approval of my husband (very important, because we all know I wouldn’t ever dare to do anything without running it by him first) to take over a spare bedroom. Yay! So today I want to share with you my design board….this is all about the “feel” and “look” I want in my office…..not particularly these “things”. This is where the basis for all my design decisions will come from so hopefully I will create a cohesive look for my new office.

The overall look I am going for is semi-industrial with dark timber & pops of colour (naturally)….while I adore bright white spaces (check out my Office Pinterest Board here) the reality is I like things to be moodier. We are going to build a custom desk with a combo of an Ikea Hack and Upcycling, I also have 2 furniture pieces I am giving a makeover and lots of different DIY projects that will fill my space with storage solutions and personality.

To start my mood board I just started a “private” (because I can’t give all my secrets away) Pinterest board……and I just pinned things that I liked whether it was the colour, feel, look, idea or project. For my Mood Board I selected images that I felt reflected the overall feel for the room I am creating and added the accent colours I will have in the room. I am excited to start this project……I am just hoping the final result will look as good as it does in my head!

Now this wouldn’t be a good post without the memorable “before” pictures (Excuse the quality I took these with my IPad). The photos where taken when we were packing up the room and getting rid of a lot of junk so excuse the piles, but I personally think it makes for a better before when the room is ugly to begin with.

The carpet is black with a white pattern….this is from when this house was my photography studio…..we do have plans to replace it as I am not a fan of carpet, but that is not part of my makeover at this point. The room has one window and two doors (we have special plans for one door as it isn’t needed), a large cupboard  and grey walls. I think overall it is a good base to start with and will fit the design choices I will be making. I will post tutorials and updates as they happen…..now all I need to do is get started!

Have you got plans to makeover any rooms in your house this year?
