Photography in Your Home

As a professional photographer I am passionate about having beautiful family portraits in my home. So, I am always looking for creative ways to display images….don’t get me wrong I love a quality framed portrait or a canvas, but I also like to mix things up a bit. Pinterest is such a source of inspiration for unique ideas and creative solutions so I thought I would share some of my favourite DIY ways of displaying your family portrait before I share how I do things in my house. These projects are truly inspiring from very talented bloggers so if you are going to pin it go to the source!

Displaying Photography in Your Home | Colour Saturated Life -

I love the simplicity of these clipboard inspired wood panels by Liz over at Love Grows Wild – she even took the beautiful still life photos for the display! I also love that you could do these at any size and different configurations. The simple rusticness (that’s a word, right?) of these it what really makes them stand out to me. Click on over for the full tutorial.

This is a bold way to display Instagram pics – plus it is an awesome Up-cycle of an old frame! As shown on Goodwillionaire  – I love anything that re-purposes old items that would usually end up in the garbage. (Little Hint….my tutorial is a twist on this idea). Want to know how to recreate this….see the full tutorial here.

This next idea from 100 Layer Cake was used as a temporary display at a party but I can definitely see this as a permanent fixture in a home especially in a teen girls room or an office. Just take a selection of your favourite images and some colourful Washi Tape and you have yourself an instant, bright display of your photography. The great thing about this is when you get bored it is easy to swap out for something new!

Liz Marie of Liz Marie Blog is one of my favourite bloggers so I had to include her stunning idea of displaying art in your home, which could also be used for photos, kids art plus with Christmas coming up you could display your cards! It is such a versatile idea! I am also a fan of using wood in your home and these look rustic but clean and modern at the same time, plus she has a more simplistic version here that would look just a cute with a selection of family photos. I just love that both of these options allow you to switch out your art/photos anytime you want.

This next display is from a wedding shot by Heather Armstrong Photography – This you could easily make yourself and make a great display in your home. It doesn’t have a tutorial but you could easily knock up 3 simple frames and stretch some chicken wire across them. I love that it would bring the photos off your wall in a larger display.

Finally I love the use of an old window frame by Laura Haley Photography – another great up-cycle of an old object. You could do this with or without glass.

While there is nothing wrong with displaying your images framed or as a canvas……don’t you just love the creative ways you can show off your family photos?…the possibilities are endless and there is no reason you can’t try something a little different. Next Week I will show you how I have chosen to display photos in my home…..I even have a tutorial to share with you!

Which one is your favourite from this collection?
