I absolutely LOVE Christmas! My husband has learnt over the years to brace himself as the festive season approaches. There is nothing I don’t love about the season……I can be heard singing christmas carols loudly out of key, I take the lyrics “deck the halls” very seriously, I love Santa and making sure the magic of Christmas is kept alive (my daughter at 8 still believes in Santa and I LOVE that), but mostly I love honouring this season for what is truly meant for…..celebrating Jesus’ birth.
I am sooo ridiculously excited to share my first ever home tour, though it is only a part home tour but I promise you will not be disappointed in the quantity of photos……I may or may not have gone a tad overboard…..but then it wouldn’t be Christmas if I didn’t over do it!
Before we start the tour I should tell you little about where we live…..We are fortunate enough to live on a 90 acre Farm in Queensland, Australia in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland….this is my husbands families property and we live in a little “cottage” while we wait to build our forever home on our plot of land on the farm. The farm is called “Thistledo” it was named by my in-laws and one day soon our forever home will reside here…I am proud of the legacy and the history of this property. It has always been my husbands dream to make a home here and I am happy to be able to share this dream with him. So this little “cottage” we call home is a tiny little house on top of a hill…..a little house that is built onto a shed…..it’s not pretty but we are very blessed to live here and I refuse to take it for granted. One day I am sure I will miss this little home just as I miss each home before it….they all have played a part in our story.
So without further ado…..welcome to my home…..
Lets start with the entrance…..it’s small but that is a common theme here and I am happy I have one at all. I took my theme “Handmade Christmas” literally….most of what you see here is found, foraged, upcycled and handmade. I wanted the look to be rustic and simple with an Australian influence…..there will be no snowflakes here. I kept it simple with a wreath, bunting and a mirror (which was a cupboard door in its last life!) …..then I have my “believe” sign that is copper leaf “dipped”….this is a simple DIY, I will be sharing the tutorial with you.
I completely stripped our living space of colour…..well as much as I could…..which is saying a lot as I love colour but I really wanted a very organic look. I was that committed (or I need to be committed, probably the latter) that I even switched out furniture…..as you come to know me better you will see just how committed I am to creating “looks” in my home.
I made the three pillows, the antler one was done with a washable Sharpie and the other two I sewed, I also made the three Copper Foil Prints and the frames, I will share these in a DIY tutorial….they are probably my favourite project I made for Christmas this year. I made 5 different signs for my Christmas decor all with wood found on the farm…..I will be sharing how I made three of these in upcoming tutorials.
I found this old door in a shed here on the farm….it was fun hanging that thing but I have to say this is my favourite vignette….I wish it could stay all year!
I recently did a post on my “refreshment station” reveal and I just knew this would be a great place to makeover and dress-up with Christmas decor…..I replaced my refreshment sign with a more christmassy one that I made….I actually love this look without all the colour!
Which leads me to the kitchen….I LOVE baking…..I love nothing more than watching the joy my cakes bring to my family….I will be sharing a special Christmas recipe with you in an upcoming post…..my first recipe from my kitchen.
On the other side of our living room is the closest thing I have to a mantel…..our vintage sideboard….my FAVOURITE piece of furniture. I decorated this with branches pruned from our lemon trees, logs my hubby chopped to pieces for me, pine cones and lots of candles. I placed my Christmas Message in a Bottle ornaments onto a branch and created a nativity scene for the wall (tutorial coming)….I used my antique typewriter to write up a piece of scripture….Isiah 9v6. Our Christian faith is very much the center of our Christmas.
How cute is this small rustic chandelier ornament I found…..it makes me smile.
Below is a basket I hung on the wall….doesn’t it look wreath-like? I normally photograph babies in this so its a different use for it!
In the hallway alcove I have my Nativity scene…..I spent every Christmas the first 4 years of our marriage looking for the perfect nativity……this is a treasured item….something I plan to pass on. I look forward to unpacking it from its box every year….it never fails to take my breath away.
Here is a closeup I took so you can see what I mean about how beautiful it is. I also have a matching snow globe and a Mary & Joseph figurine now which I bought a few years ago. Just in case you are wondering the brand is called Heartwood Creek by Jim Shore – and I do not know where you can purchase them now…..I bought the nativity about 11 years ago.
Normally our Christmas Tree is HUGE….I love big trees…..this year I decided to get a smaller tree…..it was hard for me and I really struggled decorating the smaller tree. I used my Fabric Wrapped & Copper Baubles, small white hearts and this gorgeous copper wire lights (my favourite buy this Christmas).
So that is it……for now…..I had soooo many photos that I am sharing my Christmas table-scape for a separate post…..so hopefully you will come back tomorrow to see how I have decorated my table 🙂
Till then, here is a picture of my daughter showing a great use for one of my pillows……oh! to have the crazy mind of a child!
